Santee Town Center serves as a pivotal intersection connecting the southern and northern parts of Santee, California. As part of the city’s “River View Office Park Master Plan,” the “Enhanced Crossing” project aimed to create a visually appealing and functional space that reflects the community’s growth and development. The centerpiece of this enhancement is a flower-shaped Lithomosaic, crafted with various blue mosaic tiles, placed at the center of the intersection. This artistic installation not only beautifies the area but also symbolizes the city’s commitment to thoughtful urban planning. In addition to the central Lithomosaic, the crosswalks are adorned with ribbons in blue and yellow glass materials, guiding pedestrians across the intersection.
These ribbons, spanning the 10-foot-wide crosswalks of the four-street intersection, enhance safety and add a dynamic visual element to the streetscape. The collaboration between artist Amanda Klemaske and landscape architect Joe Esposito ensured that the design met the city’s vision, incorporating innovative solutions to install the large mosaic pieces precisely. This project exemplifies how public art and functional design can converge to create a vibrant and connected community space.
