Directors Place

A life sciences building featuring a two-story sedimentary wall and cantilevered Lithocrete stair, reflecting the coastal cliffs of Torrey Pines.

Directors Place is a five-story, 150,000-square-foot life sciences research and laboratory building located in San Diego’s Sorrento Valley. Designed by Delawie, the building’s architectural features and interior lobby design draw inspiration from the nearby coastal cliffs of Torrey Pines. A two-story high Lithocrete sedimentary wall anchors the double-height lobby space, with light coves illuminating the wall to create an immersive art piece. TThis design choice enhances the building’s connection to its coastal surroundings. The use of Lithocrete Sedimentary Walls and cantilevered stair not only provides durability and aesthetic appeal but also reflects the natural textures and colors of the Torrey Pines cliffs. The integration of these materials contributes to the building’s LEED Silver certification, aligning with sustainable design principles. The project has been recognized with awards, including the 2024 NTMA Honor Award and the 2024 ASCC Decorative Concrete Council Award for Architectural Cast-In-Place Concrete Structures Over 5,000 SF.
